Edward is an experienced physiotherapist and a health business advocate who prides himself on his ability to make a positive and long-term difference in his patients’ lives. He enjoys working with patients to understand not only the cause of their musculoskeletal injuries or dysfunction but also to understand the whole individual including their interests and lifestyle. This ensures he is implementing a bespoke management plan to each patient based on his comprehensive assessment and their individual needs.

Edward graduated from the University of Sydney and worked in multiple private practices, aged care, disability and community facilities. He loves to work amongst a team as well as independently servicing the community. In 2012 he founded a community based mobile allied health company. This involved working as a physiotherapist to service group homes, disability NDIS and aged care facilities. Ultimately this led to the formation of multiple clinics in Five Dock, Hunters Hill, Glebe and Macquarie Fields. He has since set-up and sold various practices, established stand-alone clinics as well as working himself within a private practice setting.   

In 2015, Edward established Balmain Physiotherapy by Sydney Allied Health Group as his head office where he practices as the Principal Physiotherapist. He currently leads a team of 10 practitioners, which includes a wide range of allied health services, including other physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, community physiotherapist and optometrist. Edward further expanded his business in 2017 with the establishment of the Australian Disability Consortium. This is an NDIS focused allied health community team that delivers exercise physiology and physiotherapy services to clients with disability, living independently and within group homes, to help improve musculoskeletal function and enhance cardiorespiratory health.

Clinically, Edward is interested in treating jaw-dysfunctions. Furthering his study within the area of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) has allowed Edward to work with patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), Trismus (lockjaw) and providing rehabilitation to patient’s post jaw surgery or post mandibular fractures. The establishment of the Sydney TMJ Physiotherapy, which co-habitats within Edward’s Balmain clinic, has since been able to provide specific physiotherapy treatment to patients with such jaw-related conditions by utilising a range of hands-on techniques, manual therapy, dry needling and exercise prescription.

Edward believes in adopting a community-focused and family-focused approach to his work culture and team environment. With this in mind, Edward and his wife Dr Queenie Chau established Balmain Vision Pty Ltd and Five Dock Optometry Pty Ltd in 2021, independent optometry practices that focus on delivering quality eye healthcare.

Outside of the private practice setting, Edward is involved with the Balmain Tigers AFC, providing physiotherapy services to the players throughout the season, and is an active member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and Physiotherapy Business Association (PBA) committee. In 2023 he took on the role of Chair of NSW APA Business Group which involves advocating for the well-being of all Australian private practice physiotherapists. He has also been able to apply his passion for teaching to mentoring programs for other physiotherapists through his work with the APA and was a member of the NSW APA branch council from 2020-21.

Outside of work, Edward enjoys spending time with his family, the challenge of board games, playing basketball and golf, and hanging out with Katsu the Shiba Inu.
